ME VS HERO INTERVIEW
We interviewed Sam Thompson from Me Vs Hero...
1. Your album "I'm Completely Fine" is due to come out early this year. How excited are you for its release?
We're all super excited!! We haven't released anything new for almost 3 years, and you grow so bored of playing the same songs every night on tour.
2. This is the first album you've released since 2010. Why the long wait?
It's just been hard for us, as it is for any upcoming band. We had 3 members leave the band, and each time that happens, it takes a certain amount of time to get a new member in and tour ready with your songs. Also songs we started writing off the back of "DTSOL" were no longer relevant to what we like now. Couple all that with having to sustain a job to pay bills, and keep a healthy family and social life...it takes time.
3. You played Warped Tour UK in November. How big of a deal was that for you?
I think if you ask any pop punk band what gigs they aspire to play and Warped Tour will be in their list 100% of the time. The fact that it was in the UK made no difference to us. It was great to be on such a niche gig, with only a hand full of bands, most of which inspired you to be in a band in the first place. We were truly lucky to have been a part of it.
4. You're going over to America to tour in February. Have you ever toured there before, and it not, what are you most anxious about?
We actually just had to cancel the America run, it turns out its a lot more difficult and costly for bands to tour the states than it is for bands to tour the UK. It became apparent that the plan we had for visas was the wrong one for us, and we just didn't have the time or money to get it resolved. We're extremely bummed about it, it would have been our first time playing over there, but we're determined to get back over later in the year.
5. Because you're touring with With The Punches in February, and you also toured with them in December, do you not get sick of them? :D
We're all big fans of With The Punches, its the reason we asked them over to the UK. They are great musicians and the nicest bunch of dudes. When we're all together there's no inter-band divide that you get with a lot of bands you tour with, they are just a part of our family. I will literally walk around Manchester with my headphones in, singing WTP songs recently.
6. If the band were The Inbetweeners (plus Neil's dad!), who would be who?
Good question. Luckily I love The Inbetweeners so this will be easy. Bobby would be Simon because he's always telling girls he loves them, Mike would be Will because he is extremely geeky and panics a lot! He does things like calculate his MPG on his car to save himself pennies, he could actually also be Neil too. He has the lowest common sense I have seen anyone have ever (except for Neil). Grant would be Neil's dad as his voice is well camp and soothing, I would be Jay because I can basically only make sex jokes (I'm pathetic and childish) so I guess that leaves Simon as Neil, to be honest, Simon is usually baked and is always proper laid back like Neil. It would take a hell of a lot to rile him up, in fact I've never seen him mad!
7. If you were a stripper, what would your stripper name be?
Isn't this supposed to be something like your pets name and the street you grew up on, so mine would be Gizmo Saltcoats. Not very sexual is it.
