BLITZ KIDS INTERVIEWS
We talked to Jono Yates from Blitz Kids!
Are you excited to be supporting We The Kings this month?
Yeah. When we got the offer through it came as a real shock. I've been listening to them since their first album, when the whole new sweet pop-punk scene was beginning to rise with All Time Low and Boys Like Girls. I can't wait. I'll be singing all the words at the back for sure.
What influenced your mini album 'Never Die'?
A new sense of freedom. We were no longer shackled to the musical restrictions and limitations that we had with ex members. We really wanted to branch out and become the band we've always wanted to be. Musically, we were listening to a lot of classic stuff. The Police, The Doors, early U2. We wanted to write some really timeless songs, and I'd like to think we didn't fail completely!
What is your favourite song from 'Never Die'?
Personally, I'm most proud of Memento Vivere. It's the first time I've ever tried my hand at string arrangements. Seeing it progress from my laptop to actually being played in the studio with a violinist and a cellist was a hugely satisfying moment.
What was it like to work with Aled Phillips on 'Story'?
I've been good mates with Aled for a few years now, and when we approached him to guest vocal on Story, he was well up for it. He's the kind of vocalist that just steps into the booth and instantly produces the goods. I don't think there are many singers as talented as him in the UK rock scene.
What are your plans for 2013?
Tour, tour, tour. Obviously we have the WTK dates in January. Then we head out for our first venture in Europe in February, followed by SXSW in Texas in March. Then another big support tour in April. It's pretty non-stop. Our second album will be dropping shortly after that. It's really exciting, when I list it all out like that I get goosebumps.
If the band were the Inbetweeners, who would be who?
I'd be Jay. Joe would be Neil. Nic would be Simon, and Matt would be Will. Although he has none of the traits, other than beign very well spoken.
If you were a stripper, what would your stripper name be?
Dixie Normas.
