What was it like touring with Crown Jewel Defense?
Touring with Crown Jewel Defense was really eye opening. It was a fantastic experience for us and also a great achievement. At the same time it was extremely tiring. Getting up in the morning, loading the van and driving for hours to wherever the next venus was, definitely one of the hardest parts of touring, but it was definitely worth the effort, we met some great people along the way.
Did your parents have to go with you, because you guys are quite young, and what was that like?
The main reason our parents had to come along was because none of us own our own cars or even have a full driving license so without them we wouldn’t have been able to perform on the tour, so we owe a lot to them. It was very different; it felt like they were roadies more than parents but they were pretty cool.
Was it fun filming your music video for ‘The Plague’?
When we shot the video for ‘The Plague’ we had a lot of laughs. We filmed it in a farmer’s barn and there was tractors and farming equipment all over the place but there was a small spot for us to set up. We worked with our friends at Silent Syndicate Productions to film ‘The Plague’ and they did a great job.
Who are your influences?
Our influences cover a huge range of artists and genres. We listen to a lot of metal from bands like Bullet For My Valentine, Avenged Sevenfold, Memphis May Fire and Chelsea Grin, however that’s only a handful of bands we listen to. On the other hand, Brady is a huge fan of Lady Gaga and I’m a massive fan of Owl City. We try to be as open minded as possible when it comes to music; it helps a lot when you’re writing to have more ideas.
If you could tour with anyone, who would it be?
If I could tour with any band on the planet, it’d definitely be Bullet For My Valentine. They’ve been a huge influence on my life as a musician and a person. I think my dream line-up to tour with would be us opening, followed by Periphery, then Slash, and then BMFV headlining. However I doubt that line-up will come along anytime soon, but fingers crossed eh?
How did the band get started?
The band started just over two years ago with one vocalist on guitar, a rhythm guitarist and a drummer. But as far as we’re concerned that was a different band entirely, we’re a completely different band now, and we’re proud of that and how far we’ve come.
Hayden (former guitarist/vocalist) messaged Jake after finding out he was a singer and asked if he wanted to start a band. He then asked Murdo (former drummer) and he was the first drummer. They met at their first practice at Murdo’s house. Murdo then left and Joey came in as his replacement and Brady joined in on lead guitar with Ben on bass. Ben left the band last year and because Brady and I were old friends he called me up halfway through a game of golf asking if I wanted to audition for rhythm guitar, however I wasn’t keen on being just rhythm so we’ve agreed to share lead guitar. After a short time in the band the debate with Hayden arose and we decided to carry on without him. However we’re all on good terms and no friendships were broken. Brady then asked Josh if he was interested in the position and before we knew it we had a full line-up again.
We hope to get back on the road as soon as possible. We’re aiming to release an album next year followed by a headline UK tour, nothing has been properly planned as we’re still looking into studios, producers and all the things around that.
We haven’t got many gigs planned for the rest of the year as we’re focussing on writing new material. However we do have a couple of gigs lined up. Come see us at the Vault in Rugby on the 4th August or at Scuffy Murphy’s in Birmingham on the 21st September, and be sure to keep up with our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/thefinalchapterofficial) where any and all news is posted.
