Call Me Deceiver Interviews
We talked to Italy’s finest, Call Me Deceiver…
As you’re quite new as a band, how are you finding breaking into the music scene?
Breaking into the music scene is kinda hard for so many reasons, but we’re not afraid to try to promote ourselves as much as we can! During the last years, technology has made it possible for bands to promote themselves to a huge audience using the internet, and this is what we also plan on doing. Italy definitely has something to offer music-wise, even though our genre is not really mainstream and bands like us could really use more visibility and spaces.
Are you finding you’re getting quite a positive response since releasing your first single, ‘Like A Feather’?
We’re actually stoked how a single song brought us so many fans and appreciation even though we’re still a new band! we recently started doing live shows and people loved it. Like A Feather was the first song we wrote and we have a special attachment to it. It is also being re-recorded and will be in our new EP so watch out for it ;)
How would you describe the song?
We like to think our music as both heavy and epic (in a melodic kind of way), and we think this song shows it! Like A Feather features some heavy parts as well as melodic choruses; It features both screaming and melodic vocals, and we like to layer guitars, synths and vocals so the mix is pretty dense! The song is about weakness, abandon, being betrayed by someone you once fully trusted, and feeling powerless just like a feather in the wind. but we don’t wanna ruin it up too much, everyone can go listen to it on our page and tell us if they like it ;)
How is the recording of your first EP going?
It’s going great! we’re almost done with guitars and we’re about to start tracking vocals. Everything is sounding really tight so far and we’ve had some really nice ideas during songwriting and producing :) We’re so proud of what we’ve done and can’t really wait to share the new songs with everyone and hear their feedback!
Can you tell us anything about it?
Sure, our new ep will feature our 5 best songs among the ones we composed in the last few months. All the songs will feature heavy sections as well as melodic ones, and we have great plans for this EP when it comes out! We’re also releasing an official music video for one of the songs, so stay tuned :)
Who are your influences as a band?
Everyone in the band actually listens to lots of stuff mainly ranging from punk to metal. Some members also have a strong pop punk influence, which is where our melodic choruses come from, while others have a metal approach, bringing heavier riffs and breakdowns into songwriting! We really like bands such as Memphis May Fire, We Came As Romans, Woe Is Me, Hands Like Houses, Story Of The Year, Emarosa, and many more.
What inspired you to start a band?
Everyone of us prior to forming the band had the desire to play heavier music; this genre is not really well known here in Italy so when we knew each other it just flowed naturally and everything has gone smoothly therefrom, we’re really happy about what we’ve achieved so far and stoked and excited about what future will bring us.
